Scallops back on the menu

TARFish warmly welcomes the decision by Minister Guy Barnett to open the scallop season in time for the long weekend.

“Today’s decision will be music to the taste buds of fishers, not only will they be able to go fishing this weekend but also to catch highly prized Tasmanian scallops,” said TARFish CEO, Jane Gallichan

“We have been working closely with Minister Barnett in recent weeks and indeed the last 24 hours to hasten the opening of the scallop season and on behalf of Tasmania’s scallop fishers, I thank him for listening and more importantly taking swift action on this.

“Let’s hope Tasmania’s weather let’s scallop license holders get out there to get some juicy scallops this weekend,” she said.

As we said in our release yesterday:

“Tasmania’s recreational fishers are to be congratulated for their patience and understanding,” said TARFish CEO, Jane Gallichan.

“We’re a passionate lot and for so many recreational fishers to be landlocked for weeks on end has been tough but the end is in sight and I expect that boat ramps will be busy as fishers get out and back on the water this weekend.

“Recreational fishers will play an important role in rebuilding Tasmania’s economy and supporting Tasmania’s coastal communities that have been hit hard economically from the Covid-19 restrictions.

“From buying tyres for boat trailers to fishing equipment, fuel and bait – every bit counts in getting Tasmania back on its feet,” she said.
