New Independent Chairman announced

The Tasmanian Association for Recreational Fishing, TARFish, is pleased to announce the appointment of former Tasmanian Premier, Paul Lennon, as Independent Chairman to the TARFish Board.

Outgoing TARFish Chairman Dane Jones said the TARFish Board were very pleased with the appointment. "Paul Lennon will bring to TARFish an extremely high standard of strategic and corporate governance ability from which we, as a volunteer Board, can learn from.

“Following an extensive strategic review process of the organisation in recent months, we determined that we needed an Independent Chair to assist us to improve the effectiveness of our engagement with Government, organise ourselves for maximum effect and from that, deliver better results for Tasmania’s recreational fishers,” said Dane.

In addition to the appointment of Paul Lennon as Independent Chair, TARFish has also appointed two Associate Board Members.

Mike Stevens will join the board as the Northern Region Representative and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to TARFish.

“Mike is widely respected amongst recreational fishers and has a depth of knowledge and experience that we look forward to drawing on to assist us with policy development in coming months,” said Dane.

Alison Hay, a practising lawyer and lifelong fisher, will also join the TARFish Board as an Expert Member.

“Alison is a lifelong recreational fisher and a highly credentialed lawyer. I look forward to the strategic thinking and new perspective she will bring to the TARFish Board,” he said.

In closing Dane said, “On behalf of the TARFish Board I encourage all recreational fishers to join us in welcoming our new members as we move the organisation forward to a new era of effective representation and outcome focus.

Paul will formally Chair the TARFish Annual General Meeting in October.
