TARFish letter - Bicheno Boat Ramp Upgrade

TARFish wrote to Glamorgan Spring Bay Council Mayor, Debbie Wisby, regarding the decision taken at the council meeting of 23 June regarding item 7.11 of the Officer’s Report’s requiring decision and specifically the Bicheno Boat Ramp Jetties Extensions. TARFish, views Council’s decision to be contrary to providing safe, accessible infrastructure for recreational fishers. It should be noted that many in the Glamorgan Spring Bay Local Government Area – either permanent residents or shack owners – launch from the Bicheno boat ramp and fish from the jetty. As I understand it, it is at the specific and direct request of community members that these facilities are upgraded to improve safety and reduce congestion. It is important for all fishers that use the Bicheno facility to understand how the Council reached a decision to reject a $110,00 Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) grant to upgrade council owned assets to support the many thousands of recreational fishers and boaters that utilise the facilities.
